Thierry Legault – International Space Station and Discovery – STS-133

April 12, 2011

I meant to link to this last month, but lost the link. Here are some amazing images captured by Thierry Legualt of the International Space Station, Discovery and and astronaut Steve Bowen:

Thierry Legault – International Space Station and Discovery – STS-133.

Why is the soooooooooo aweseome? Becaukse Thierry Legault was not hitching a ride on some passing asteriod or piece of space junk to snap these photographs. No, he was on earth, tracking the Space Station from the ground. Scroll down on his page to see some video as well. AND if you like the “Magic Eye” Illusions, or anything illusion-y, you must scroll down his page for instructions on how to make the movie look 3D. It involves some squinting and crossing of the eyes and pop! the station is spinning through space. Beautiful.

The Bad Astronomer confirms that this is the first image of an astronaut ever seen from the ground. Wow.
