Flat Earth

January 31, 2009

Oh man. I had no idea. Check out the Flat Earth Society Discussion Board. FE’rs are a delightful bunch, as are the RE’rs (round-earthers) that spend their time trying to convince the FE’rs of their folly. When confronted with the obvious photograph of a ship sinking below the horizon, there seems to be a plethora of explanations. My favorite is that of Mr. Davis:

“Light bends fast as it gets closer to the earth and also based on rim distance and location angle, due to there being less aether near Earth.  This causes Sunrises, sunsets, the sinking ship, the midnight sun, and the illusion of the night sky rotating.  This is known as aetheric eddification.  The equations are not yet ready.

Emphasis mine. I’m totally going to use that from now on.

When asked when the equations might be ready:

“I’m sorry I can’t throw out a unified theory in a year while working and living a life.  I am unsure when they will be ready, but as time permits.”

He should get a grant or something, because this sounds like important work.

The internets are awesome.
